Luke Zeme > "Lightning at Sunset".
A Supercell Storm, when it reached the ocean, grew in intensity as it collided with a second storm front. The sky lit up with 100's of amazing lightning bolt's and I'm pretty sure I will never forget this night. Shot near the gold coast, Australia.

Taken in Port Arthur, Tasmania Australia. Right at the bottom of Tasmania is the remnants of a colonial settlement from the early 1800's and visitors are free to explore the site, which is located at Port Arthur. This old Stone church was built for the convicts, by the convicts, in 1836-37.

This is the Fushimi Inari Shrine pictured at dawn and its about a 15 minute train ride from Kyoto in Japan. These torii (gates) are the most recognizable icon of the shinto, the native religion.

Luke Zeme > The Bright Lights to Akihabara Tokyo, Japan

This is looking down towards Akihabara, Tokyo Japan, from Kabukicho the red light district. This was taken at around 10pm at night and you can see how alive the city still is. Akihabara is well known for its electronic stores and are everywhere in that particular area of Tokyo. I loved this particular section near Kabukicho though as there were many small neon alleyways to explore resembling that of a maze. This is one of the main arteries of Tokyo and it always seems to be flowing.
Luke Zeme > I went out of the city to shoot this sunset on a warm summer's afternoon. You can see the snake like features of the Brisbane River as it curls around the city CBD which is one of the defining Landmarks of Brisbane, Australia. I also like how I managed to get a silhouette of a Palm tree on the river, its so Queenslander :-)
Luke Zeme > "The Gion-Gateway"
The Gion District in Kyoto is best known for it's Geisha but there are so many other amazing things to see and do. You have a rich tapestry of historic culture living within a modern urban sprawl and they both manage to work beautifully in tandem. Whether its heading underground to catch a quick subway train across to the other side of the city or heading into the markets to experience some traditional food, the transition is seamless between these new and old aspects and this is one of the great things about Kyoto. It's old but its new at the same time !

Luke Zeme > "The balancing Act" © Luke Zeme 2013
Here in this scene what stood out to me was the way this girl was carrying her surfboard on her head not unlike an African tribes woman carrying a water and food vessels on her head. I've always been amazed at how much people are able to balance on their heads and am secretly a bit jealous haha. But also there seem to be all the elements for a great image- an epic cloud formation, a setting sun, sweeping curves and silhouette figures. The fact that I was at Australia's iconic wave "The Pass" was a sweetener on top of these.
Luke Zeme > "Surfers Strip" © Luke Zeme 2013

Surfer's Paradise is a welcoming city catering for everyone from families to all walks of travelling tourists. Captured here you can see an energetic crowd of people on Friday night enjoying Italian food right in the thick of the CBD. I especially loved this modern metallic sculpture and the way the palm trees were lit up from the blue ringed lights wrapped around their trunks. Towering above everything are a couple of the many High rise Hotels all lined up along the broad beach, the main beach on the Gold Coast.

Luke Zeme > "Sydney Monorail". When the Sydney monorail was built in 1988 I was 8 years old at the time. I remember thinking that the future was here and that flying cars and robots must not be far off. Unfortunately it's 25 odd years later and no such futuristic elements clutter the city streets. In this image I'm reminiscing of the city I imagined I would be living in as an old man...
Luke Zeme > "Wineglass Bay". This is the view from Mount Amos overlooking Wineglass Bay, in Tasmania Australia.

It's about a 45 minute hike up to the lookout which had to be done with a torch as it was pretty dark. This storm coming in from the Tasman Sea ended up bringing snow storms to the Midlands, which I almost got trapped in later that afternoon. Fantastic View though and well worth the effort.
Luke Zeme > This is one of the Alpine huts built to provide shelter for hikers on the overland trail from lake St. Claire to Cradle Mountain. It's elevation is about 1250m and the winds are icy cold up here in Winter. As soon as the sun drops behind the mountains the temperature plummets. This was shot at about 4 in the afternoon and waiting for sunset at 5:10 would have been dangerous without better suited gear as the hike back down to Lake Dove is at least 90 minutes even on the steeper track, which I took. Great experience to be up here, but could have gotten better weather ! Next time :-P
Luke Zeme > "Brisbane from Cootha" © Luke Zeme 2013

To me Brisbane is like a country town that grew and grew and this composition shows it surrounded in the Australia bush.
