Luke Zeme > Surfers Paradise Photograph, Australia
This Landscape Photograph is of the Most famous Coast line in Australia known as Surfer's Paradise, on the Gold Coast in South-East Queensland. I had to go up 77 stories to get this kind of perspective. Just 2 weeks ago I had a view across Tokyo Japan, a city of 20 million people, from 60 stories up but this I have to say is a beautiful view and has my heart, as it is my home :-) Everyone always has a sense of nostalgia for their own country.

Luke Zeme > "The Golden Temple", Kinkaku-ji, Kyoto Japan.

Sitting under the cool shade of a coloured Japanese Maple is the best place to view this Golden Temple in Kyoto. As you take in the temple your eyes wander to the lake which offers a series of tiny island's populated with Japanese Garden Tree's pruned like puffy clouds. I was reminded of a scene from Alice in Wonderland and the garden of the Queen of hearts... "Off with her head!" :-)

The Zen Buddhist temple, Kinkaku-ji, has fallen to attacks during war times in japan and its history dates back to 1397 ! As you wander caretakers quietly go about their business sweeping up leaves or shaping bushes and the amount of individual attention given to all aspects of the garden is something I love about Japanese culture. In a world livid with technology their devotion to nature and spiritual enlightenment is a very attractive quality. It isn't just in these public gardens that you see this kind of attention to detail, but also in nearly every house and apartment across Japan :-)

I found these boats at Bondi, which can be seen on the horizon, and the sunset was filled with those really high clouds the ones that make cool colours at sunset.

I wrote a Blog post on exploring that day which can be located here
Luke Zeme > "The Lantern Shrine" © 2013

I found this shrine whilst exploring at night with my camera. There were people roaming amongst the gardens and temples interacting with their surroundings. A group was ringing these bells by shaking these giant thick ropes that were hanging down off them and the sounds chimed throughout the area.

Luke Zeme > "the Reflected sunlight" © Luke Zeme 2013

You know that moment in the afternoon when you hold your hand up to shield your eyes from some reflected sunlight on the glass of a skyscraper… That moment when it warms the skin on your cheeks and forehead, so you raise your chin with your eyes closed to bask a little more in its glory. Nothing exists outside of this moment… “The reflected Sunlight”

Personally, and I am bias, but I think this would look stunning printed on metal.

Luke Zeme > "Snow Monkeys, Japan".

I caught many intimate moments between the snow monkeys in the Japanese mountains.. This is one of my favorites shot through the mist's of this hot spring where a pair of infants play whilst mum takes a rest. I found myself following the youngest of the groups most of the time, they were soooo cute !

The sunrise is fading as night drops over Surfer's Paradise Australia. This view shot from 20 stories up is titled "Two sides of Paradise" and was shot on my Nikon D800. There are many water inlets like the one seen on the left of this image and the houses have personal river access and can moore their yachts right out the front of their property. Also pictured is the Gold Coast Freeway flowing in and out of the Surfers Paradise CBD.

I went camping to take this image at a location south of the Gold Coast, Australia. I explored the rocky coastline and found a nice place to camp and watch the sunrise whilst surfers caught waves just over the rocks on the left.

Luke Zeme > "The umbrellas of Kyoto"

The backstreet alleys of Kyoto offer an exciting insight into the traditional side of Japan, a window into the past. What stands out to me though, is that many of the religious and cultural practices aren't in the past but instead are really quite current and still being carried out on a day to day basis. So you aren't just witnessing a time from the past but a myriad of ancient to modern worlds entwined all together.

This stone path, with its traditional shops and restaurants, winds its way up the hillsides of Kyoto to the Kiyomizu-dera temple. The temple overlooks Kyoto and offers an amazing view of the entire valley.
Luke Zeme > "Lightning at Sunset".
A Supercell Storm, when it reached the ocean, grew in intensity as it collided with a second storm front. The sky lit up with 100's of amazing lightning bolt's and I'm pretty sure I will never forget this night. Shot near the gold coast, Australia.
Luke Zeme > "The Convicts Church" © Luke Zeme 2013

Taken in Port Arthur, Tasmania Australia. Right at the bottom of Tasmania is the remnants of a colonial settlement from the early 1800's and visitors are free to explore the site, which is located at Port Arthur. This old Stone church was built for the convicts, by the convicts, in 1836-37.

This is the Fushimi Inari Shrine pictured at dawn and its about a 15 minute train ride from Kyoto in Japan. These torii (gates) are the most recognizable icon of the shinto, the native religion.
